Our Fleet

Through our subsidiaries, Rand operates a fleet of eleven self-unloading bulk carriers, including three tug/barge units, and three conventional bulk carriers, both Canadian and U.S. flagged with safety as our first priority. Rand is the market leader in the River Class vessel segment and is the only carrier able to offer significant domestic port-to-port services in both Canada and the U.S. on the Great Lakes. The Company’s vessels operate under the U.S. Jones Act – which reserves domestic waterborne commerce to vessels that are U.S. owned, built and crewed – and the Canada Coasting Trade Act – which reserves domestic waterborne commerce to Canadian registered and crewed vessels that operate between Canadian ports.

We take pride in our world class safety record, exemplary maritime and technical expertise, and the unmatched efficiency and flexibility of our operations.
Boat watchers travel miles to view the ships in operation, since many of the vessels have a unique history within the Great Lakes maritime industry.
